Building Learning Communities

What: Speculative design project

When: Spring and Fall of 2015.

This project was part of the work done on the University Transdisciplinary Lab – Civic Innovation: Strategies and Practices for Transformative Change, a collaborative lab by Parsons School of Design and The New School for Public Engagement, in 2015.

I worked with Ricardo Dutra and Tamar Roemer, in partnership with Edgar Cahn, Founder of TimeBanks USA. In our speculative design process, we developed ideas on how a school of the 21st century would work if it was based on learning communities and empathy. We imagined a learning environment in which students, faculty and staff had tools to express their feelings and interests, and which included designed spaces for the discovery of connections and common interests among the members of the community.
