An Audio Quilt of a Thousand Names

Interactive audio sculpture.

Using small recording devices sewed into papers cards, we invited 100 participants to record names of people who died of HIV/AIDS, in a reference to the practice of the Reading of Names of the AIDS Memorial Quilt displays.

We hung the cards as floating sculptures. Visitors could press a button to hear the names previously recorded. Pressing several buttons at the same time transformed the sculpture into a forest of sounds.

Made in partnership with LabSynthE.
