Notice of Spring

Installed in several public spaces before the Spring Equinox in March 20th 2025, this piece takes visual inspiration from the Film LA notices, which are widely seen on the streets of Los Angeles, and uses the poetry of Cecília Meireles to notify the inhabitants of several LA neighborhoods that spring is coming.
Artist Statement
Notice of Spring playfully uses the language of the disembodied voice of the city – informing people of shootings, and directing them around – to bring to the surface another disembodied voice, one that needs silence to be heard: the voice that comes from deep within the earth, that is awakening for the upcoming spring.
Adding to the artist’s body of work that uses the visual communication of official signage to create space-specific experiences, Notice of Spring intends to cause an experience of absurdity when one first sees a familiar signage with unfamiliar text. This weirdness, this need for a second look, creates a space for engagement and reflection, and, in this case, for celebration for the unstoppable spring.
